St Patrick Day Parade:

The Kilflynn 2010 St Patrick’s Day Parade will always be remembered as the parade that put our picturesque village on national T.V and how well it looked, Kilflynn received national publicity as R.T.E covered the local St Patrick's Day along with two other Kerry parades Killarney and Tralee.

The grand Marshall at this years St Patrick’s Day Parade was local Irish artist, Linda Graham-Locke , who led the parade in style in Bosco Mahon’s pony and trap .where an estimated 1,300 people lined the route cheering and applauding the participants as they passed by in a colourful pageant of music, drama, comedy and song.

The Parade and Fancy Dress Parade which was held in ideal weather conditions, commenced at 4.00 p.m. from St Theresa’s National School and made its way to the reviewing stand in the centre of the village where local dignitaries Fr Jack Fitzgerald, Fr. Kevin O’Sullivan, Mark Hussey (Crotta Hurling Club), John Brennan (Kilflynn Vinatge Club) and Tom Mc Elligott (Kilflynn Development Area Association) were casting their eyes over the Eighty individual groups who participated. MC Micahel Neenan delivered a witty running commentary on each passing float and groups, some of these were seen to breathe a sigh of relief when they weren't the target of the jovial Kilflynn Development Area Association Chairman.

The parade continued down to the bridge before returning to St. Columbas Centre, for the judging and presentation of prizes in the Fancy dress competitions.

The organizing committee would like to thank all who help out before, during and after the parade and to make sure we had and successful and incident free event

VICTORY FOR LIXNAW/CROTTA MINORS;

Lixnaw/Crotta captured the Jimmy King Memorial shield following their 0-14 to 2-5 win over Ballyheigue in the North Kerry A league final in Causeway on Sunday 18th April. In a tight, tense affair, Lixnaw/Crotta came from six points drift half way through the second half to put in a turbo charged finish which kept the supporters on the edge of their seats right to the very end. The first half was a low key enough affair, one point separated the teams at half time, 0-5 to 0-4 in favour of Ballyheigue. Two Brendan Brosnan points, one from Ricky Heffernan and one from Tommy Allen just before the break left the bare minimum between the teams. Both teams were finding it hard to hit the target in the third quarter but a Ricky Heffernan point levelled up the contest. Ballyheigue looked like they had come up with the winning combination when they hit Lixnaw/Crotta for two rapid goals in succession. Lixnaw/Crotta had to throw caution to the wind and the team management rang in the changes because it really looked like it was all over. Brendan Brosana moved to centre forward with Jonathan Silles reverting to the centre back position. Four Brendan Brosnan points, two from play, two from frees and one from Jonathan Silles reduced the margin to one single point. A Sean Weir point left it 2-5 to 0-11 and game up for grabs, five minutes remaining. Lixnaw/Crotta applied wave after wave of attack which Ballyheigue had no answer to. Brendan Brosnan closed out the contest with a hat-trick of points for game, set and match.

After the game Gerard Doyle, secretary of the North Kerry hurling board presented the Jimmy King Memorial shield to a delighted Lixnaw/Crotta captain Jonathan Silles.

Well done to the team management of Padraig Fitzmaurice and Joe McAuliffe.

Scorers; Brendan Brosnan; 0-9. Ricky Heffernan; 0-2. Sean Weir;0-1. Tommy Allen; 0-1. Jonathan Silles; 0-1.

He praised Kerry for the marvellous work being done in the County to promote hurling and he congratulated Causeway Comprehensive School on it's the fantastic achievements' on the hurling fields over the past number of years.

The Chairman of the Kerry County Committee, Jerome Conway, thanked the Munster Council for the great support they give Kerry hurling. Mr. Conway said that his hope for the year in Hurling was that we would compete well in every competition and continue to make progress. He praised the great work of Kerry Hurling Officer Joe Walsh, GDAs Maurice Leahy and John Griffin and heartily congratulated Causeway school on their great wins in School A competitions' all year.

Mr. Dick Spring former TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs was guest speaker. Mr. Spring said that the summers of his youth were spent in Kilflynn where he played Hurling with Crotta. He said that Todd Nolan was a special person and had skill and ability on the hurling field. Had he played hurling for any of the successful counties he would have a bucket full of All Ireland medals. The former Tánaiste said it was a privilege to have played hurling with Todd and but for Causeway they would have won the 1979 County Final! He said that hurling facilities and pitches had much improved over the years since he played and he wished the Todd Nolan Tournament every success.
